What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry in charge of treatment of teeth irregularities, such as teeth alignment, teeth occlusion and jaw problems. Although the ideal age to start orthodontic treatment is between 10 and 15 years, dental braces used in treatments are also effective in adults.
Benefits of orthodontic treatment
- It is beneficial for dental hygiene improvement as well as dental aesthetic.
- If teeth are misaligned it is much more difficult to maintain good dental hygiene. This can promote cavity appearance, periodontal disease, or even tooth loss.
- There are certain aspects related to orthodontics that if left untreated can result in: Wear or fracture of tooth enamel, poor chewing, etc.
After orthodontic treatment tips
- Following treatment, avoid solid foods and try to ingest soft foods in the form of puree or soup. This way, the food won’t generate a strong impact with the teeth and pain will be avoided during ingestion.
- Avoid food that must be bitten with the incisors, such as apples or carrots. This way you’ll prevent overexertion of the teeth and loss of the bracket.
